The Sanctuary Counseling Group central office is located on the ground floor of the Terry Building on East Fifth Street, beside Presbyterian Hospital and directly behind St. John's Baptist Church. Parking is available beside and behind the building.



Dr. Lowery is a North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She also is currently a contributing faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Walden University. Previously, Dr. Lowery served as Assistant Professor and Fieldwork Coordinator in the Rehabilitation Counseling Program at Winston-Salem State University.


Dr. Lowery earned a Ph.D. in Counseling and Counselor Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Fayetteville State University. Dr. Lowery trained within community counseling, vocational rehabilitation, and career placement settings. She interned in the Office of Disability Employment Policy within the Department of Education and also obtained advanced clinical training within a behavioral health hospitalís adult inpatient unit.


Dr. Lowery works with adults and groups guided by an approach that emphasizes the mind, body, and spirit toward optimal growth and healing. She specializes in perinatal mental health, infertility, and birth trauma. Dr. Lowery also supports individuals on a range of issues including grief and loss, adjustment to disability, depression, anxiety, chemical dependency, and relationship conflict. She enjoys assisting busy professionals manage their job-related stress and career planning and development. Dr. Lowery recognizes the value of combining complementary approaches with traditional therapy for overall wellness and integrates the use of essential oils in practice.
