Counseling and Consultation
As professionals, we offer counseling and psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, families and groups (depending on individual counselor training and experience), as well as education and consultation services. We are men and women of faith committed to honoring each person’s spiritual path and life process. We are licensed, certified therapists and counselors, including ordained clergy, trained to integrate the resources of faith and the behavioral sciences in a compassionate, holistic counseling environment.
Counseling
As therapists, we work with individuals, couples, families, groups, adults, children, adolescents, single-parent families and step-families struggling with a variety of issues including:
•stress
•self-esteem
•guilt and shame
•anger management
•depression and anxiety
•loss and complicated grief
•marital and family conflict
•trauma and abuse
•domestic violence
•parenting
•life changes
•personal growth
•illness
•spirituality
Education
In addition to individual, couples, and family counseling, MCCS staff members can be available to teach or facilitate workshops on a host of topics. Topic themes can be tailored to the needs of the group. More information can be found on the services for clergy page or by contacting the counselor in your area.
Consultation
As consultants, we respond to needs within the church and community by presenting workshops, retreats, and consultations designed to heal, inform and empower. Consultations may be brief or long-term and may involve crisis intervention and trauma debriefing, conflict resolution, psycho-education, re-visioning, and facilitation of transitions in the church’s life. Consultation services are made available to:
•congregations
•clergy staff
•judicatories
•agencies
•business/industry
•professional practices
Supervision
With LPC’s, LMFT’s, and fee-based pastoral counselors on staff, qualified staff members can provide approved professional clinical supervision for other mental health counselors in training. For example, those certified as Fellow or Diplomate in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors can provide supervision or consultation for pastoral counselors. Testing and Evaluation
MCCS staff currently contract with Ministry Development Service (MDS) to provide psychological evaluation services for the Western North Carolina Conference and the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, evaluating incoming clergy candidates. Individual psychological assessment for clergy at risk or in distress is also available.
