Credentials: Dr. Golden is a North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), as well as a National Certified Counselor through NBCC. He is a member of the American Counseling Association, the North Carolina Counseling Association, and Chi Sigma Iota (Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society). He is also an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, Western North Carolina Conference.
Specialties: Dr. Golden specializes in mood disorders (depression, dysthymic disorder); anxiety disorders (acute stress, generalized anxiety, panic disorders, social anxiety, specific phobias, post-traumatic stress); stress management; bereavement and complicated grief; life transition and adjustment disorders; eating disorders; issues related to self-esteem and guilt; issues related to personal/spiritual growth.
Education: Dr. Golden has a MS and Ph.D. in pastoral counseling from Loyola College in Maryland (Baltimore), an MA in Culture and Spirituality from Holy Names College in Oakland, CA, and an MDiv from Duke Divinity School. He completed his undergraduate work at Duke University. Clinical experience includes work at Hospice of the Chesapeake Bereavement Center (Millersville, MD), the College of Notre Dame Counseling Center (Baltimore, MD), and Towson University Counseling Center (Towson, MD). Dr. Golden has been with MCCS since 2002.

First United Methodist Church in Hickory is located on the corner of 3rd Street NE and 3rd Avenue NE, beside the science center, art museum, and library (S.A.L.T. Block) From Highway 127, heading north, turn right on 4th Avenue NE and go one block. From Highway 321 going north, turn right at 2nd Avenue NW (at the McDonalds) and follow it through town to the blinking light at 3rd Street NE. Turn left and go one block. The counseling office can be reached by following the walkway on the right side of the sanctuary, between the church and the house next door, to the white double doors.

Broad Street United Methodist Church in Statesville is located in downtown Statesville beside Mitchell Community College. From I-40, take exit 150 and head south (Center Street). In downtown Statesville, turn right onto Broad Street and go two blocks. The church is on the left. From I-77, take exit 150 (Broad Street) and go west. Follow Broad Street through town. The church is on the left. The counseling office can be reached by following the walkway around the right side of the church, between the church and the fenced-in playground, to the first door. A small waiting room is just inside.
